This Week in the DMV 1/15/17

The Hard Problem

Opening this weekend and going until February 19th.  Acclaimed playwright Tom Stoppard brings his newest work to the illustrious Studio Theatre this January. The Hard Problem concerns Hilary, a young psychology researcher who is attempting to define consciousness in her latest project. A past decision haunts Hilary, causing her to make new, perhaps dangerous choices, leading the audience to contemplate the difference between science and actual living, and how belief affects us.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 16th.  The nation’s capital is a great place to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., especially during the holiday held in his honor. Visit the majestic Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the National Mall before or after you attend the 11th Annual MLK Peace Walk & Parade, a festive community gathering that Dr. King would love. The Washington Wizards also celebrate his memory with a matinee game against the Portland Trailblazers, an annual occasion that makes for a perfect day-off activity.

Shen Yun Performing Arts 2017

January 17th to 22nd.  One of the world’s foremost classical Chinese dance and music companies, Shen Yun Performing Arts, will transport you to the Land of the Divine this January. China was once known as the Middle Kingdom, and Shen Yun will bring this ancient world to life through dance, an orchestra and incredible backdrops. All of these elements come together to reveal 5,000 years of awe-inspiring Chinese stories and history.
